Macho Man Randy Savage
"Macho Man" Randy Savage, came to the headquarters of GOING ALL OUT. The purpose was to promote his HIP-HOP CD. I'm a fan of "The Madness" so this was a unique event. To my surprise he showed up with extreme fighter/wrestler Brian Adams, wrestler Ron Harris and his DJ, Gorgeous George. Not to be confused with his former Valet, Gorgeous George. I've met a lot of celebrities, but this was the illest interview I ever did. - Jason M. Thomas- Producer
GAO- Talk about your album.
MM- Its called "BE A MAN". We ruffled a few feathers, but that's what we do. We're all about respect. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Except for Hulk Hogan, he's a punk!! I'm trying to be nice, that's light. You know the deal, he's a "Punk Ass!"
GAO- What's the "beef" between you and Hulk Hogan? I know there's a long history between you two. You both made the wrestling industry what it is today.
MM- Well, thank you very much. Here's the situation. We've been acquaintances at best. We've never been best friends. Just a business type of thing on the television. Everybody knows its sports entertainment. Entertaining the wrestling fans. But, sometimes what goes on behind the scenes is stronger than the soap opera on the video scope. That's what happened with me and Hulk Hogan. His real name is Terry Bollea, my real name Randy Poffo. He disrespected me and my family through the media. Instead of having a problem with me and talking about it, man to man or agreeing to disagree, he didn't.
GAO- That's what men do.
MM- That's not what he does. He's a wuss. He goes on the airwaves and disrespects me. He gave me a shot, over the radio, over TV and the internet. But nothing face to face. That's the deal. So I challenged him to a match 2 years ago. All the money, all the pay per view revenues and proceeds would go to a Children's Hospital. He's done well in this business, I've done well in this business. This would have been giving back. I called him to the ring to have the first "REAL" fight in professional wrestling.
GAO- A REAL Fight?
MM- A Real Fight, between Hulk Hogan and the "Macho Man" Randy Savage. He had two weeks to accept the challenge for the Children's Hospital. Otherwise, I'd cut a check for 10 thousand dollars to the kids. The pay per view revenues would have been so much over the top. You know that.
GAO- And it was for a good cause.
MM- For the greatest cause in the world, sick kids. I took 10 thousand dollars and put it in what I called the "Hulk Hogan" coward fund, where he could write it off, but he didn't show. I'm a counter puncher, if you hit me, I'll throw a punch back at you. Now its two years later, and I love my music. I have an album out that we worked hard on. Only one song is dedicated to him. That's all he deserves. I've also got a love song, but he gets the hate song. HA HA!
GAO- I want to address something else important. Miss Elizabeth and her loss. Early in your career, you guys helped each other.
MM- Yeah, we were actually married. Then we got a divorce, which happens in life sometimes. We had separation and closure. But, I really feel bad for her and her family. It was a situation where we hadn't seen each other in maybe five or six years. We had closure and we'd say "hello", everything was all good. I really feel bad for her family.
I also feel bad for my friend, "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig. I have a song dedicated to him. The last song on the CD.
GAO- "My Perfect Friend"?
MM- "My Perfect Friend" is the last song on the cd. I get chills thinking about it. All the wrestling fans, who enjoyed Mr. Perfect for his skills in the ring know he was incredible. Most people don't realize he was an incredible friend and he had an electric personality. He was also a great athlete and father of four kids. He passed away much too early.
GAO- Now I want to ask your opinion of several people. Tell me what first comes to your mind. Arnold Schwarzenegger?
MM- Pumping Iron, he led the way.
GAO- Vince McMahon? MM- He's like P.T. Barnum, the greatest promoter that ever lived.
GAO- Halle Berry? MM- "Hot"! Smoking hot! Muy Calor! Muy bonita!
GAO- 50 Cent? MM- I like "In the Club", that's hot.
GAO- The Rock? MM- The Rock is a cool dude, because when he goes to the locker room, he shakes everybody's hand. He looks everybody in the eye. He doesn't stir it up in the locker room. You gotta realize that wrestlers on TV travel all around the world. They're away from their families, making high risk maneuvers trying to entertain the fans. The Rock and The Undertaker are two generals in the locker room. When you're a leader like them, you have a responsibility, not to stir it up and cause turmoil.
GAO- The WWE today? MM- I say we pass them the torch.
GAO- Molly Holly and the blonde Gorgeous George? MM- Just passing through, Props.
GAO-Leaping Lani Poffo? MM- That's my brother. My real blood brother. Angelo Poffo is my father. My dad was the "World Sit-up Champion". 6,033 consecutive sit-ups in four hours and ten minutes.
GAO- Get outta here! MM- He did one every 2 and 1/2 seconds in "Ripley's Believe It or Not". That's called respect and pride at the same time.
